Sunday, July 5th: Don’t Be a Lone Ranger

July 2, 2009

Lesson Topic – Don’t Be a Lone Ranger

That’s Good to Know – I will stay connected to the family of God.

Bible Lesson – The Story of the Prodigal- Luke 15:11-32

Spoken Word – Some people have not gotten out of the habit of meeting for worship, but we must not do that. Hebrews 10:25

Parents Corner-
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it” (Prov. 22:6). Many parents know this proverb by heart. It reminds us how important it is to raise our kid’s right. Training children to love Jesus and serve God is a real calling that requires God’s help and the leading of His Holy Spirit. When you raise children to live a life of faith, it will affect them for the rest of their lives. The truth that they learn today will affect how they view God, the world and their future place in it. It will affect their decisions about the kinds of friends they hang out with, the kind of person they marry and the way they raise their own children.

As a parent, your calling to train your children is real and powerful. Today’s “children’s church” is tomorrow’s “big church,” and the lessons you teach your kids today will affect how committed they will be to the body of Christ when they are grown. Recent studies show that children who attend church are twice as likely to attend church and read their Bibles when they are adults. That proves that training children in the Word early is a vital key to ensure the dedication of their lives to Jesus.

So this week as you teach your children about putting God’s kingdom first and staying committed to His family, know that every word is a building block for the rest of their lives. Your children will discover that nothing can replace their personal relationship with Jesus. They’ll discover that attending church and surrounding themselves with Christian friends is an important part of Christian life. They will understand why it is so important to say: “I will stay connected to the family of God.”

Sunday, June 14th: The Miracle Dad

June 11, 2009

Lesson Topic – The Miracle Dad

That’s Good to Know – Faith is acting on what God says.

Bible Lesson – Amazing Promises- Genesis 17:1-10, 15-22

Spoken Word – Anything is possible for someone who has faith! Mark 9:23

Parent Corner –
Here’s a wonderful truth we need to understand: God desires a covenant relationship with us. A covenant is like a contract, but deeper.

We’re more familiar with contracts; we’ve signed plenty of them. While a contract brings you into a formal relationship with the lender, its purpose is not to build a relationship. Instead, its purpose is to ensure that both parties fulfill specific requirements. A covenant is different. While it is a formal agreement between two parties, its primary purpose is the bind the parties together in a relationship.

It is important that your kids grasp the realization that God’s Word is His covenant to them personally. Have your children say, “The Bible is God’s Word speaking to me.” If we do our part, believe the Word and then act as thought it is true, God does His part by making His Word come to pass in our lives. Faith is acting or living our lives based on the promises of God. When your kids face circumstances in life that are contrary to God’s Word, teach them to find out what God says about that situation. Then teach them to say the same thing that God says about that situation in His Word. We always want to agree with God- this is faith. For example, if fear tries to scare kids in their thoughts, teach them to believe and say what God says about it: You can teach the kids that fear has to go because it is not from God. Unless people “act” on the promise or covenant by speaking and living right, it sometimes has no effect. The same is true with a contract in the real world. The terms just don’t automatically happen. Both parties must put into action the words on the paper. Faith is acting on what God says.
