Sunday, March 1st 2009: God’s Master Design

Lesson Topic – God’s Master Design

That’s Good to Know – I am designed by God.

Bible Lesson – God creates people. Genesis 1:26-31

Spoken Word – I praise you because of the wonderful way you created me. Psalms-139:14

Parent Corner – Someone once said the body, when reduced to its chemical components, is worth a couple of dollars. However, if someone put a price tag on the parts of the body that can be transplanted, its value would soar to millions of dollars. Corneas, lungs, kidneys, heart, liver, pancreas, bone marrow and DNA combine to make the human body worth a fortune in the medical world. But what makes us special in God’s eyes is not the value of our organs. It’s that God invested His very spirit nature into us.

Consider how the human body came into being. Genesis 2:7 says, “The Lord God took a handful of soil and made a man. God breathed life into the man, and the man started breathing.” God is Spirit, and He breathed His very life into us.

Some people focus on the fact that we were made from this earth and therefore discount our worth as human beings. They see our value as educated animals that evolved over millions of years. When our hearts stop beating, our bodies die, and we are gone. Because God created us in His image and breathed His life into us, we are eternal beings. Unlike birds and dogs and other parts of the created universe, we can enjoy a fulfilling personal relationship with God that carries the assurance of living forever with Him.

In a world that urges kids to live for the moment, today’s lesson gives you the opportunity to teach your kids that they were designed to live forever. Created in God’s image, their worth is greater than any treasure on earth. Help your kids to know and say with confidence today’s That’s Good To Know: I am designed by God. When the psalmist realized how valuable he was to God, he said, “I praise you because of the wonderful way you created me” (Ps. 139:14). May God’s Spirit help your kids echo that beautiful praise today.

Lesson Topic – Can’t Touch This!

That’s Good to Know – Stay away from temptation.

Bible Lesson – Samson Sins. Judges 16

Spoken Word – Run from temptations that capture young people. Always do the right thing. – 2 Timothy 2:22

Parent Corner – Temptation wouldn’t be so dangerous if weren’t so…well…tempting! The first sin would never have occurred if the fruit hadn’t looked so “beautiful and tasty” (Gen. 3:6). And beautiful and tasty sins still abound today. In today’s Bible lesson, we see how sinful passion can take hold of one’s life and cause destruction.

God chose Samson to be a Nazirite. This meant he was set apart for a special purpose and thus was to dedicate himself fully to God. But Satan worked to turn Samson’s passion for God into a sinful destruction.

Specifically, Samson was drawn to Philistine women, even though he knew this was against God’s plan. This weakness led to his humiliation and premature death.

Strong Samson- who was anointed by God to perform superhuman feats to rescue his people-was brought down by his lack of self-control.

How does this lesson relate to the lives of boys and girls? It contains some critical truths that your kids need to hear again and again. Kids need to see that just as God chose Samson for a special purpose, so He has a plan for them. Satan would love to distract the kids by placing roadblocks in their paths. The good news is that kids do not have to follow Samson’s example. Instead of giving in to temptation and being defeated by it, they have the power to resist it. Equally important, communicate that even when they give in to temptation, all is not lost. God will forgive them and they can get back on the right path of His purposes for their lives. This lesson will help kids understand that they can overcome heartache and hurts by learning to stay away from temptation.
