Lesson Topic – Variety Is the Spice of Life
That’s Good to Know – God wants me to accept people who are different from me.
Bible Lesson – Peter preaches to the Gentiles- Acts 10:9-43
Spoken Word – God is pleased with everyone who worships him and does right, no matter what nation they come from. – Acts 10:35
Parent Corner – No matter who we are, what we look like, or where we are from, we are equal. It’s our faith that makes us equal with one another. Galatians 3:28 says, “Whether you are a Jew or a Greek, a slave or a free person, a man or a woman.” We have the same Creator, who shows no favoritism one way or the other. Peter said, “I am certain that God treats all people alike. God is pleased with everyone who worships him and does right, no matter what nation they come from” (Acts 10: 34-35)
This lesson is vitally important in today’s world. When kids are tempted to place one another in social classes or cliques, this lesson teaches that not only does God not show favoritism, but He also doesn’t want us to show favoritism. In short, God wants me to accept people who are different from me.
When kids are young, they don’t have a natural “bent” toward favoring one person over another- it’s a learned problem. Teaching your kids that God wants them to accept people different from themselves is a great step in helping them un-learn or prevent the difficulties that prejudice can bring to their lives.
Take time today to show your kids through your words and actions that you don’t show favoritism either. Let them see a living example of today’s “That’s Good to Know” in action. Help your children to realize that each of them are unique and special, not just because of the color of their skin or physical appearance, but because of the unmatched individuality God has given each of them on the inside. There is so much more to a person than what our natural eyes can see. We are different, but we are equal to God.
Improve Your Serve

Lesson Topic – Improve Your Serve
That’s Good to Know – God loves it when I help others.
Bible Lesson – Jesus washes the Disciples’ feet. –John 13:1-5, 12-17.
Spoken Word – “Help all who are weak, and be patient with everyone.” -1 Thessalonians 5:14.
Parent Corner – Mark Twain once said, “Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” Serving and helping others is a big part of being a Christian. James encouraged us to “be doers of the word and not hearers only” (James 1:22). Actions really do speak louder than words. Today is a great opportunity to share with you kids how sometimes it’s better to be seen rather than heard.
One of the greatest ways to witness to the world, whether it be to your friends or strangers, is through your actions. The activities we do day-in and day-out, the attitudes we portray and the entertainment we enjoy all shine a light on who-and whose-we are. Share with your kids about a time in your life when you performed an act of kindness for someone else. Tell them how it affected that person’s life. Or, share about how someone else’s kindness affected you and your family. No example is too small.
Take this week to share this powerful lesson with your kids but also to realize that you’re speaking volumes to them through your actions. Each smile, each pat on the back and every helping hand leads them closer to God. Be alert to your actions and see if there are opportunities to “go the extra mile” and reach out more to your kids. It might be something as insignificant as making eye contact when you give them a cheerful hello. Or it could be something more personal like a scripture verse written on a personalized card, or remembering them on their birthday. Whatever it is, your actions could mean the world to them.
Ultimately, you want your kids to realize the truth that God loves it when I help others. Reaching out to those around us is truly one of the greatest acts of faith that pleases God.
The Heart of a Champion

Lesson Topic – The Heart of a Champion
That’s Good to Know – I am God’s champion.
Bible Lesson – The story of Gideon: Judges 6:11-18.
Spoken Word – “The Lord is helping you, and you are a strong warrior.” – Judges 6:12
Parent Corner – You would probably be amazed at the barrage of derogatory words assaulting your kids during a typical week. Some kids endure racial slurs; others are tormented by pejorative names based on their looks. Labels like stupid, dumb, ugly, trash, unwanted and various curse words hit as hard as an arrow through the heart.
Tragically, sometimes kids believe these lies about themselves and live down to such labels. However, with this week’s lesson we help your kids see themselves from God’s point of view.
In the midst of poverty and oppression, the Lord greeted insignificant Gideon with the last title he ever expected: “strong warrior” (Judges 6:12). When the Lord’s angel said, “I am giving you the power to rescue Israel.” Gideon replied, “But how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest one in Manasseh, and everyone else in my family is more important than I am” (vv.12-15).
When you teach your kids to say, “I am God’s champion,” some of them will think, Not me! How could God use me? I’m nobody from a family of nobodies! Your challenge is to help your kids identify with Gideon. If God could choose him, He can choose and use your children- no matter what! Remember the words of Paul: “God chose the foolish things of this world to put the wise to shame. He chose the weak things of this world to put the powerful to shame” (1 Cor. 1:27).
