That’s Good to Know God gives me authority in the name of Jesus.

Bible Lesson – The Miracle at the Gate – Acts 3:1-20

Spoken Word “So at the name of Jesus everyone will bow down” – Philippians 2:10

Parent Corner This is a wonderful opportunity to teach your kids about the powerful authority in the name of Jesus.  Take time to pray and read God’s Word to reacquaint yourself with this topic.  Here are a few verses to get you started:

“I tell you for certain that if you have faith in me, you will do the same things that I am doing.  You will do even greater things, now that I am going back to the Father.” – John 14:12

“Show your mighty power, as we heal people and work miracles and wonders in the name of your holy Servant Jesus.”  - Acts 4:30

“He put his faith in the name of Jesus and was made strong.” – Acts 3:16

When your kids learn to put their faith in the name of Jesus, they too can be made strong.  At its simplest, the authority in the name of Jesus is similar to a law enforcement officer’s authority.  When a police officer stands in the middle of a road and commands traffic to stop, traffic stops.  It is because of the power of the individual officer?  No, it is the power that the officer represents that makes drivers obey.  Drivers recognize the authority.  In the same way, when we as Christians use the authority of Jesus’ name, demons and spiritual influences obey.  It isn’t us. It’s the power behind us- Jesus’ name-that they recognize.

This week as you talk with your kids about, God gives me authority in the name of Jesus; share the reality of that authority.  Sometimes God expects us to use His name and take care of the situation at hand.  Kids need to know that they have a mighty weapon in their hand- the name of Jesus.  The name isn’t just a nice slogan- it is the name of the Son of God, who died, overcame death, rose again and defeated Satan.  His name- and His authority- is real and available to everyone who has faith in Him.  Sing songs about the name Jesus and help kids to really see the power and purpose of it.

Rock Your World

That’s Good to Know God gives me power to share Jesus with others.

Bible Lesson – The early Christians preach the gospel. Acts 2:1-18

Spoken Word The Holy Spirit will come upon you and give you power. -Acts 1:8

Parent Corner After gloriously rising from the grave, one of the last things Jesus said to His disciples was, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth! Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to do everything I have told you. I will be with you always, even until the end of the world” (Matt. 28:18-20). This Great Commission is summarized in Mark 16:15: “Go and preach the good news to everyone in the world.”

This is a hefty challenge. But Jesus didn’t expect His disciples to share the good news in their own strength. On the contrary, He sent His Holy Spirit to empower them to share His truth.

Encourage your kids to rely on the Holy Spirit to help them share God’s Word with their families and friends.

One of the greatest fears kids this age face is looking foolish in front of their friends. By helping them realize that the Holy Spirit is with them, ready and able to give them the words to say, they will discover a new boldness to share God’s Word with those who don’t know Him. They will discover the truth of today’s, “That’s Good To Know”: God gives me power to share Jesus with others.

Remember that the same truth applies to you and your children. God has given you the power to share Jesus- not only with your kids, but with people everywhere. You don’t have to do this in your own strength, simply hoping that someone will “get it.” Trust God to empower you. Trust God to move among your children!

Rely on God’s Supply

Lesson Topic Rely on God’s Supply

That’s Good to Know God provides for all of our needs.

Bible Lesson – God supernaturally provides manna.  –Exodus 16:1-15

Spoken Word Good people have never been left helpless, and their children have never gone begging for food. – Psalm 37:25

Parent Corner When the Israelites were finally delivered from Egyptian slavery, they did not leave empty-handed.  While the first nine plagues only hardened Pharaoh’s heart, God told Moses it would be different after the deaths of their firstborn children.  The Lord told Moses, “I am going to punish the king of Egypt and his people one more time.  Then the king will gladly let you leave his land, so that I will stop punishing the Egyptians.  He will even chase you out” (Exod. 11:1-2).

Just as the Lord has said, “The Egyptians did everything they could to get the Israelites to leave their country fast” (Exod. 12:33) following the final plague.  The Israelites left with their own livestock but also with “the wealth of the Egyptians” (v. 36).  This wealth would help them to establish their own nation in the Promised Land.

At least two million people in all followed Moses out of Egypt.  God guided the Israelites by a thick cloud during the day and a flaming fire at night.  God didn’t take them through fiercely occupied territories, even though that would have been the shortest direction, because He knew they might want to return to Egypt.  Instead, He led them around the desert and toward the Red Sea.

The Lord allowed the Egyptian army to come after the Israelites when they were camped at the Red Sea.  It would take a miracle to escape, and God provided one.  God rolled back the sea so that the Israelites could cross and then sent the waves crashing down to drown the pursuing Egyptian army.  When the Israelites needed water, God twice caused it to flow from a rock in the desert.  To feed the Israelites, God sent manna and quail six times a week, year after year.

May God bless you and your children as you stand on His promises, that God will “take care of all your needs with the wonderful blessings that come from Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19).  God provides for all of our needs.

That’s Good to Know Prayer builds friendship with God.

Bible Lesson – The Lord’s Prayer -Matthew 6:9-15

Spoken Word Never stop praying.  Always pray by the power of the Spirit. – Ephesians 6:18

Parent Corner Oswald Chambers once said, “We look upon prayer as a means of getting things for ourselves; the Bible’s idea of prayer is that we may get to know God Himself.”  The focus of today’s lesson isn’t about receiving or interceding.  It’s not about the power of prayer or the many types of prayer.  It’s about friendship, plain and simple.

Many kids today may feel alone in a crowd.  Some may feel like they don’t have very many friends, or any at all.  This is an opportunity to share a powerful truth with them: God is not only their Father but also their friend.  More than anything, He desires a one-on-one relationship with each of His children.  He wants to know about our successes and our failures, our thoughts and our concerns, our laughter and our pain.  He wants to know us.

To get to know someone, you have to spend time with them.  The more time you spend, the closer your relationship will be.  In the same way, when we take time out of our busy lifestyles and set aside time to spend with God, it strengthens our bond with Him.   As we draw close to Him, He draws close to us.  (See James 4:8.)

Help your kids to understand this simple truth today:  Prayer builds friendship with God.  Not only is He a great friend, but He is also our best friend.  He is someone we can count on 24-7.

Share with your kids about how you spend time with God.  Talk a little bit about your personal prayer time and tell them the things you discuss with Him.  Then share a key time in your life when you’ve counted on Him as a friend.  By seeing true-to-life examples, today’s lesson will become even more real to your kids.  Soon they’ll discover that God is always there for them, too!
